It is therefore crucial that you understand the costs associated with these services before you commit on your involvement with these companies. The first step towards becoming debt free is to construct a debt elimination plan either by you or a professional debt counselling agency. The first and most important step is creating a monthly budget that accommodates your needs and to stick to it. You must spend money only on the essential items that you need in life. You should only spend on more items if you have additional money. Lower detrimental expenses like eating at restaurants, talking a lot on the cell phone and acquiring items which are not necessary for daily survival.

Another way which helps in staying out of debt is by utilising cash to settle balances and using credit cards only when needed, for example, making a hospital bill payment. Take the option of direct deposit of your pay checks. However you can get your salary without going to the bank therefore you will not feel the need to withdraw cash. Hey there, it is a legal process. I had a friend do it back home, but the thing they don't tell you is that they show up on your credit report, and it makes it very hard to buy a house, or even a car. My friend had the toughest time getting a house because they were on her report. Good luck!

    Hi John,

Debt elimination programs are good options for anyone wants to avoid bankruptcy. But the most important thing to do before applying for such a program is to search around to find a reputable company that you can trust your money with.

That's not enough! You should also make your debt elimination plan yourself without helping from others. That's very simple if you know where your money goes, and how to use it properly.

All you need to do is to be convinced that solving your debt problems is inside you. Change your lifestyle, your mindset, and your think.

The best advice today is to never spend more than you earn. Make your budget and stick to it in order to eliminate your debt without getting help from others. If you need help, go ahead and search for a good credit counselor who has a good reputation and experience.

    Thanks,

Many companies around are scams, so be careful. Here is a good site. http://www.SettleDebtForever.com. I eliminated $8,000 in debt 2 years ago. They also help with credit repair. My credit score was bad for about a year, but then it shot up pretty far in just about 30 days after I started the repair. Right now, it's 803. Just make sure you know what you're signing up for. I was happy with this company, but I was ready for what could possibly be at stake having low credit for awhile, but as long as you don't want to buy a house or car for 12 months, then it's usually ok. And with http://www.settledebtforever.com, you can choose either complete elimination or settlement, if you're not comfortable with one or the other. Just remember to research anyone that you sign up with! There are some legitimate companies out there, but just as many bad ones.

Be careful when dealing with debt consolidators. We used Ameridebt, before they went bakrupt(or whatever happened to them), and they didn't do much for us, actually ended up getting late charges due to them! Did you try calling your credit card co. and ask them to reduce the APR yourself? If you call and talk to a supervisor you may be able to reduce that on your own. Don't bothering dealing with the "regular" phone people insist on a Supervisor. Also watch because Ameriebt was taking I think $20 a month for non-profit reasons..and there was a $200 fee right up front or something crazy. I would definitely search for an alternate way to consoildate, maybe a bank loan? But if you must then check the better business bureau for any complaints first!! Good luck, I know debt stinks!!
